Organization Profile
The Office of the Corporation Counsel serves as the legal representative of Hawaii County’s 2,300 officers and employees. Located on the Big Island of Hawaii, the county features an exotic landscape with eleven distinct climate zones, including lush rain forests, arid deserts, black sand beaches and snow-capped mountains.
Situation
The office was running out of storage space for its growing archive of legal opinions, memos and letters. Because files were stored in multiple buildings, finding a particular document was a tedious, error-prone process.
Solution
Corporation Counsel Lincoln Ashida says that Laserfiche has “revolutionized” the way the office works. Comprehensive search tools help attorneys quickly find the information they need. CD publishing enables staff to assemble trial exhibits and simplifies the discovery process. And, thanks to Laserfiche, lost and misplaced documents are a thing of the past.
Benefits
- Attorneys prepare for trial more quickly than in the past.
- The Quick Fields Bates Numbering module automatically numbers file pages when they are imported into the repository.
- The office can readily provide clients with an organized history of documents related to a particular case or controversy.
- The implementation in the corporation counsel’s office is so effective, the county is currently expanding their installation to seven additional departments.
