Lisa Bobo, CIO for the City of Rochester, Awarded 2018 Nien-Ling Wacker Visionary Award
Laserfiche—the leading global provider of enterprise content management (ECM) software—announced today that Lisa Bobo, Chief Information Officer for the City of Rochester, NY, is the recipient of the 2018 Nien-Ling Wacker Visionary Award. Bobo was chosen for the award in recognition of her forward-thinking approach to delivering technology systems that enable the city’s strategic goals and ability to provide quality citizen services.
With nearly 30 years of public service IT experience, Bobo has led a number of pioneering technology initiatives. Most recently, she implemented a Laserfiche enterprise content management solution for immediately processing public records requests, allowing staff to focus on other citizen-facing processes.
“As the City of Rochester continues to look at ways to improve city services, the Information Technology Department aligns all process and technology implementations with a citizen-facing approach,” Bobo said. “The Laserfiche implementation allowed us to build a taxonomy structure that was service oriented, rather than an internal departmental structure. This is just the beginning as we continue to build a robust content management program.”
Since implementing the system in March 2017, staff have processed more than 4,000 public records requests—exceeding the city’s target of 3,850 for fiscal year 2017. The newfound efficiency has garnered positive feedback from both city leaders and elected officials, including the Mayor of Rochester who acknowledged the launch of the online FOIL system in last year’s State of the City address.
“Lisa is well known for her ability to articulate a clear vision that energizes and empowers her team,” said Linda Ding, Director of Strategic Marketing at Laserfiche. “The city’s implementation of a Laserfiche Freedom of Information Law request processing solution clearly demonstrates her foresight and innovation.”
Continually improving life for Rochester residents is part of Bobo’s drive and dedication as a city leader. Her community involvement includes:
- Serving as a panel member for career development discussions, technology workshops, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) -related activities for various organizations that encourage technology growth and education in the Rochester region
- Sitting on the boards for the Western New York Chapter of the Society for Information Management (SIM), the Local Government Records Archive Committee, and Foodlink
- Being an active board member of the Metropolitan Information eXchange (MIX), an organization of CIOs throughout the United States
- Acting as a government representative on the advisory board for the New York IT Leadership Academy
- Assisting students through mentoring programs
As a leader in the digital government space, Bobo speaks regularly on a wide variety of topics. Last year, she was invited to speak on the topic of data governance at the New York Digital Government Summit. The City of Rochester’s Laserfiche initiatives have also been featured in publications like the Democrat & Chronicle (part of the USA Today Network) and Rochester Business Journal.
“Laserfiche founder Nien-Ling Wacker was a pioneer and an inventor who could identify what people needed often before they could see it for themselves,” said Chris Wacker, CEO of Laserfiche. “Lisa demonstrates that same determination and passion while using technology to transform the lives of public employees and citizens.”
Laserfiche introduced the Nien-Ling Wacker Visionary Award in 2016 to honor executives who have the foresight and vision to drive transformation throughout their organizations by leveraging Laserfiche enterprise content management (ECM) software. The awards ceremony took place during the Laserfiche Empower Conference 2018 in Long Beach, CA.
