One Hundred Seventeen Million Trees Saved
2 min read
LONG BEACH, CA — On this coming Earth Day, April 22, 2008, a growing software company based in Southern California would like to note that it has helped save approximately 117 million trees over the past two decades.
The company is Laserfiche®, and its business is electronic document management solutions. Through a network of value-added resellers, Laserfiche provides solutions used by more than 25,000 organizations worldwide, including government agencies, corporations, healthcare providers, financial services firms and more.
Conservatively, Laserfiche estimates that the installation of its enterprise software has resulted in the elimination of 500,000 pages of paper documents, on average, in each organization—or some 1 trillion pages total. Some organizations save much more—for example, the Department of Immigration in Mexico has used Laserfiche to digitize more than 200 million documents.
Sources vary on the amount of wood pulp and/or recycled products used to produce paper, but by the most conservative estimates, one tree equals 8,500 pages of paper (8.5 x 11 office standard); thus the savings of 1 trillion pages of paper by 25,000 organizations translates into a savings of approximately 117 million treesi.
“We are proud to do our part,” says Nien-Ling Wacker, the company’s founder and CEO. “In all honesty, we started Laserfiche to make software to help organizations be more productive, and we’ve succeeded. To realize that we’ve also had such a positive environmental impact gives us a warm feeling.”
