YMCA Opens Laserfiche Fitness Center

LONG BEACH, Calif., — The YMCA of Greater Long Beach celebrated the grand opening of the state-of-the-art Laserfiche Fitness Center with a gala ceremony and community health fair. Laserfiche donated $150,000 toward the much-anticipated new facility as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to give back to the local community.

“We wanted the chance to make a real difference in our surrounding community,” said Nien-Ling Wacker, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Laserfiche. “All of our employees are proud that this donation has created excellent health resources that will benefit the community.”

First conceived more than four years ago, the Laserfiche Fitness Center was built in response to rapidly rising obesity rates in children and minorities in the region. The fitness center will provide much-needed access to quality, affordable fitness facilities to residents of North Long Beach. Construction began in March 2006 at the Fairfield Family YMCA branch and was finished in just seven months.

“This is the first time some of our members will have access to such advanced fitness equipment and programs,” says Ricky Grover, executive director of Fairfield Family YMCA. “In addition, our line-up of fitness classes – many of which are not offered at mainstream fitness centers – will make staying healthy fun for people of all ages.”

Former Long Beach Mayor Beverly O’Neill hosted the grand opening celebration, repeating duties she performed at the groundbreaking ceremony for the fitness center in March 2006.

“I remember standing in this very spot eight months ago among piles of dirt,” O’Neill said at the event. “Now, it’s all resulted in this wonderful, truly state-of-the-art facility – and none of it would have been possible were it not for Nien-Ling Wacker and all of the employees at Laserfiche.”

Visitors to the grand opening celebration took advantage of free blood pressure screenings, massages, and tours of the facility. Representatives from local health care organizations were on hand to answer diet and fitness questions, while Polynesian dancers and karate instructors demonstrated some of the unique fitness classes that are now available to the community.

Laserfiche has long-standing relationship with the YMCA of Greater Long Beach. Laserfiche’s world headquarters is located just two miles from the Fairfield branch.
